What is PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), or a traumatic or stressful experience?
PTSD is a mental health condition triggered by a traumatic or terrifying event. This can cause flashbacks, nightmares, depression and severe anxiety.
Symptoms of Trauma:
Having experienced a terrifying or life-threatening event: this includes a perceived to be life threatening event.
Internal reminder of a traumatic event: dysregulated nervous system nightmares, flashbacks, etc.
Avoidance of external reminders: avoiding specific locations, people, events, etc.
Changes in mood or thinking.
Increased anxiety and/or depression.
